Overview

A specialized manufacturer needed a compact and repeatable method for installing inserts into carbon fiber flywheels used in Formula 1 powertrains. A Power Team hydraulic press system delivered controlled, shock-free force while protecting delicate composite components.

The Challenge

Mechanical fly presses could not provide the controlled and repeatable pressure required for carbon fiber insert installation. The manufacturer also faced production bottlenecks, limited floor space, budget constraints, and zero-defect quality expectations.

Solution Presented

Hydraulic Technologies supplied a turnkey system using an SPM256C frame press, a 60846 pedestal, and a PA6 air pump. A customer-provided mandrel distributed force evenly across the inserts. The compact vertical configuration delivered steady hydraulic pressure without the abrupt impact associated with mechanical presses.

Results

The hydraulic press improved insert consistency and reduced the risk of damage to carbon fiber components. The compact system fit the available floor space, provided repeatable force application, and supported high-precision flywheel production without requiring complex hydraulic or electric power equipment.
