Overview
A mining operation required a controlled hydraulic lifting and support solution to perform scheduled slew bearing maintenance on a ship loader. The project involved precise lifting, holding, and bolting operations within a tight five-day maintenance window.
The Challenge
A mining operation scheduled slew bearing maintenance on a ship loader. Due to operational constraints, the project had to be completed within a five-day window. A controlled lifting and support plan was required to lift and hold the ship loader safely while servicing the bearing.
The project required precise lifting and secure support of the ship loader during bearing replacement. Tight tolerances, heavy structural loads, and a limited maintenance window increased the complexity and risk of the operation.
Solution Presented
A combined hydraulic lifting and bolting solution was implemented. Three R28010L cylinders and one R28010D cylinder were used in conjunction with an 8-point Motion Control System (MCS), valves, and hoses to lift and hold the ship loader with precise control.
To remove and reinstall the slew bearing fasteners, four TWLC4 hydraulic torque wrenches and torque wrench pumps were used to loosen and tighten the bolts securing the bearing in place. This integrated approach ensured controlled lifting and accurate bolting throughout the maintenance process.
Results
The controlled hydraulic lifting and bolting system enabled the ship loader slew bearing maintenance to be completed safely and efficiently within the five-day window. The solution minimized downtime, improved safety, and ensured accurate reassembly of the bearing.
